Born an Oneida Canadian Indian, Graham Greene has built an impressive career in television, film and theatre in Native American roles, including his widely acclaimed part as Kicking Bird in the 1990 film “Dances With Wolves.” His portrayal of a Sioux medicine man earned him a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the 1991 Academy Awards®.
Getting his start on the stage, Greene graduated from The Centre for Indigenous Theatre’s Native Theatre School program in 1974. His theatre credits include Jessica, Dry Lips Oughtta Move to Kapuskasing, and Diary of a Crazy Boy. In 2007, Greene was honored to appear on stage twice in the Stratford Festival in Ontario, as Shylock in The Merchant of Venice, and Lennie in Of Mice and Men.
With more than 100 television and film credits, Greene has had an extensive career on-screen since his first role in 1979, on an episode of “The Great Detective.” Since then, he has appeared on television in several series, including “Northern Exposure,” “Wolf Lake,” “Spirit Bay,” “9B,” and “The Red Green Show.” In 1992, Greene appeared as Ishi in the HBO drama “The Last of His Tribe” and from 1997 to 2001, he hosted the reality crime series, “Exhibit A: Secrets of Forensic Science.”
Greene’s feature film credits include “The Green Mile,” with Tom Hanks and Bonnie Hunt, “Powwow Highway,” “Maverick,” “Thunderheart,” and “Die Hard: With a Vengeance,” among others. Most recently, Greene appeared as Harry Clearwater in the second part of the highly acclaimed Twilight series, “The Twilight Saga: New Moon.”
In 2004, Greene was the recipient of the Earle Grey Award for lifetime achievement.
