A three-time Emmy nominee, Dondré T. Whitfield’s career has spanned over a quarter century and has seen him work with such industry heavyweights as John Travolta, Helen Mirren, David Oyelowo, Michael B. Jordan and Kevin Hart, to name a few.
At the tender age of 15, Whitfield booked his first professional acting job on the most watched sitcom in television history, “The Cosby Show.” The producers were so impressed with his natural talent they promoted him to a major recurring role lasting over three seasons. The industry took notice and Whitfield’s career took off from there.
Whitfield was nominated for a 2018 NAACP award for his work in the critically acclaimed series “Queen Sugar” from Golden Globe nominee Ava DuVernay, who writes, directs and is executive producing alongside Oprah Winfrey for the OWN Network. Whitfield plays Remy Newell, a trusted friend working on the Bordelon land as a water irrigation specialist opposite Rutina Wesley (“True Blood”) and Dawn-Lyen Gardner as the Bordelon sisters.
Additionally, Whitfield was seen in the hit BET comedy series “Real Husbands of Hollywood” opposite Kevin Hart, Boris Kodjoe and Nick Cannon, and in the popular ABC drama series “Mistresses” opposite Alyssa Milano and Rochelle Aytes. He also starred in the TV One movie “Christmas Swap.”
Whitfield’s versatility as a comedic and dramatic actor has been showcased in several of his feature films as well, including the Independent Spirit Award-winning and Sundance Award- winning film Middle of Nowhere opposite David Oyelowo and directed by Ava DuVernay, the comedy 35 and Ticking opposite Kevin Hart, the award-nominated drama Pastor Brown opposite Michael B. Jordan, the comedies Mr. 3000 opposite Bernie Mac and Two Can Play That Game opposite Vivica A. Fox and the Helen Mirren-directed film Happy Birthday opposite Helen Mirren and John Goodman.
In addition to film and television, Whitfield has appeared on stage at the prestigious Long Wharf Theatre in New Haven, Connecticut, in a production of Ceremonies in Dark Old Men.
Whitfield’s other credits include recurring roles in several hit television series such as ABC Family’s “Make It or Break It,” NBC’s “The Event,” CBS’ “Cold Case” and “Ghost Whisperer” opposite Jennifer Love Hewitt, ABC’s “Jake in Progress” opposite John Stamos, NBC’s “Hidden Hills,” CW’s “Girlfriends” opposite Tracee Ellis Ross and the features “White Man’s Burden” opposite John Travolta, “The Salon” opposite “Terrence Howard and “Homeboy” opposite Mickey Rourke and Christopher Walken.
With all of that under his belt, it’s hard to believe that’s just Whitfield’s “passion work.” His true passion, in fact purpose work in life, is to help males matriculate into manhood and thus he co- created The Manhood Tour. The tour is a global movement committed to awakening the consciousness of men, giving them the keys to manhood and teaching them how to live it in the highest degree. Moreover, he works to restore and resuscitate women who have suffered at the hands of males who haven’t been transformed into men.
Whitfield travels throughout the country speaking on these subjects and many other related topics for Fortune 500 companies, organizations and churches. He is set to make his debut as an author on an upcoming book that will be published by Zondervan Harper Collins.
A true renaissance man, Whitfield currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife and two children.
